"Two weddings, a divorce & a funeral" bodice

Ellie wears a red satin bodice, lined and boned, with a clear acrylic ribcage on top. The inspiration behind this piece was the suppression and restriction of women, particularly a moving article I read in a newspaper at the time. The ribcage is an ode to the women who are no longer with us due to gender related issues. The ribcage is hand-drawn, then laser cut from clear acrylic, before being heat moulded around a mannequin. It has beads draped along the front and white lacing in the back, held together in the front by fishing wire.
The red bodice underneath sits as a layer between the model and the ribcage, using traditional corset and lacing details to understand the physical restriction of corsetry.
